This term, we have been learning all about animals. We visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park for our school trip and we has a fantastic time. We even held a cockroach and a tick insect!

Exploring the school grounds

In Year 1, we explored the school grounds in the hope to find lots of wonderful minibeasts. We managed to find spiders, worms, ladybirds, ants beetles and bees. We are now going to plan, design and build our very own habitat to encourage more minibeasts to live on the school grounds.. but hopefully not in our classroom!

Local church visit

Year 1 have recently been on a visit to the local church to find out from Father Robert why the church is so important to Christians. He also showed us some artefacts and explained what they are used for. We had a fantastic time and we walked really sensibly to the church.

Partitioning two-digit numbers

In Year 1, we have started to look at different ways we can partition two-digit numbers. We have used counters, base 10 blocks, drawings and our reasoning skills to develop our understanding of this tricky concept.

Going back in time!

Year 1 have recently been on a trip to Abbey House museum for our topic on Victorians. We were able to look at old artefacts, dress up and make our own Punch and Judy. We had a fantastic time on our trip!

Umbrella Design

This half term, Year 1 have been helping Toys R Us design an umbrella for all of the stormy weather.  We had to test a range of materials to see which would work best in the rain.

The Beach Shop

This term, Year 1 have been visiting The Beach Shop with Peter Rabbit. We were able to work out how the shopkeeper would give us change from a 20p and 10p with the least amount of coins.

Manchester Museum

Year 1 have recently been to Manchester Museum for a dinosaur challenge.  We practised being paleontologists by examining different fossils and deciding whether they are from an animal or a dinosaur.  We had a fantastic day!
